Joe Hart issues heartfelt statement to Man City legend Sergio Aguero

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has issued a heartfelt message to Sergio Aguero, saying "there's more to life than football".

After his time at City came to an end, the Argentine moved to Barcelona where he missed the early stages of the season through injury.

He did manage five appearances, scoring once, before withdrawing from a game against Alaves, citing chest complaints.

Originally it was declared that Aguero would be sidelined for three months but after the doctor's instruction, 33-year-old took the option to retire from professional football calling time on an 18-year career which saw a record 260 goals for the Blues.

Hart enjoyed a number of years with Aguero and witnessed a multitude of iconic moments in the title-winning City sides. And he's now broken his silence on the striker's retirement.

"It’s very sad for him. The key message in it and I’m sure he’s going to take it, is that he’s got his health. He’s got his family. It’s important to realise that there’s more to life than football," Hart told talkSPORT.

"A lot more to life than football. He’s hopefully got a 50, 60 years left in him to reap the rewards of an amazing career.

"In terms of him as a person, he was just a really cool, cheeky, confident guy. On the pitch, he came to life and off the pitch, he wasn’t necessarily that alive. He was relaxed, a lot of shoelaces dangling around in training.

"The coaches and managers who had him, and us as players, we realised how hard we had to be and hard we had to work every day.

"In terms of creating that environment, he was that elite special player who you left to be happy. You kept them happy and they win you games."
