NEW YORK — Free agent sharpshooter Joe Harris and the Nets have agreed to a deal that brings the marksman back to Brooklyn. The deal is worth $75 million over four years, according to ESPN.
In other Nets news, free agent guard Garrett Temple has agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with the Chicago Bulls.
The Priority Sports agency represents both players and announced both agreements on Friday.
Harris' deal comes as no surprise: Nets general manager Sean Marks told reporters re-signing his best shooter was top priority this offseason twice — first in the Orlando bubble, then again during his Zoom conference call with media on Friday. His deal fortifies a Nets lineup expected to contend for a championship during the next three years of the Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and, potentially, James Harden era.
Harris was expected to have interest entering free agency. He averaged 20 points on 62% shooting from the field and 54% from 3-point range in six Orlando bubble seeding games. Harris only played in two playoff games against the Raptors last season before leaving the bubble for a family emergency, but he averaged 16.5 points and 10 rebounds in those two games, shooting 58% from three.
Harris' deal is the latest update in a pivotal offseason in Brooklyn. The Nets also traded the 19th overall pick to Detroit in a three-team trade that landed Landry Shamet. They also acquired two-way wing Bruce Brown from the Pistons in exchange for reserve forward Dzanan Musa and a future second-round pick.
The Nets still have more moves to make. Marks said another priority was adding depth at the power forward position. Retaining Harris, however, ensures floor spacing will be less of an issue in Brooklyn.
"Joe is an intricate piece to the program here, not only what he does and what everybody sees on the court, but it's off the court as well," Marks said Friday afternoon. "Joe's been through it with us, been through the bubble, he's seen this program develop and he's developed alongside this program. It would certainly be great to have him continue this ride with us."
