Liverpool fans are furious after the news that Joe Gomez has picked up an injury away on international duty.
The Reds are already without Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, with the former set to miss the majority of the campaign after surgery on his ACL.
That left Liverpool with two fit, senior centre-backs, in Joel Matip and Gomez,and the Cameroon defender only just back from injury himself.
To compound Liverpool's misery, Gomez has now picked up what is feared to be a serious injury, although England boss Gareth Southgate will provide an update later on Wednesday during his pre-match press conference.
Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also pulled out of this England squad after suffering a calf injury against Manchester City to leave Jurgen Klopp desperately short of defensive options.
Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have both been drafted into the side for recent Premier League and UEFA Champions League matches and they could be asked to play a more prominent role in Liverpool's title defence given the limited choices available.
