Joe Gomez breaks social media silence to issue positive injury update

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has posted a social media update for the first time since undergoing surgery for a serious knee injury.

The 23-year-old centre-back has not featured for the Reds since the 1-1 draw with Manchester City in early November after suffering tendon damage while away on international duty for England.

He has since undergone surgery but is still not expected to return to action for the foreseeable future.

However, he took to social media on Thursday afternoon to post pictures of himself working hard on his rehabilitation.

In the photos Gomez can be seen swimming, cycling and engaging in various cardio activities.

And he also shared the caption: "Taking it a day at a time, but giving it my all... 'There is no education like adversity'".

Gomez's fellow injured Reds teammate Virgil van Dijk, who himself has shared positive recovery pictures recently, commented on the post with a love heart and strong arm emoji.

And the official Twitter of the England national team said: "Good to see, Joe!"

It remains to be seen exactly when Gomez returns, but he has been a great miss for both club and country in his spell out.

As has Van Dijk, and speaking about the Dutchman recently his manager Jurgen Klopp offered a positive update.

"I don’t know what is possible and what is not possible; I don’t think I’m the right person to judge that 100 per cent,” he told liverpoolfc.com.

It's not clear yet when Gomez will return (@J_Gomez97/Twitter)

"He looks really good. I spoke to him this morning, I had him on the phone – he is in a really good mood. So, it’s all very promising. But I don’t know when he will be back.

"There are for sure a lot of stages still to go over or pass or whatever. That’s clear. I had this injury myself.

"But for the time we are in and for how long he is out now, how long the rehabilitation is going on, he looks really, really promising. But that’s all."
