Joe Gelhardt handed his Sunderland debut at Millwall as Tony Mowbray makes one change

Joe Gelhardt made his Sunderland debut as Tony Mowbray made just one change to the side that started last weekend's FA Cup fourth round tie at Fulham. Top scorer Ross Stewart suffered a season-ending Achilles injury at Craven Cottage, and on-loan Leeds United striker Gelhardt - who joined the Black Cats towards the end of the January transfer window - took his place.

The only other changes to the Sunderland teamsheet came on the bench, where deadline day signing from Everton Joe Anderson was included amongst the subs as central defensive cover. Alex Pritchard and Dennis Cirkin were also on the bench having recovered from the calf and hip injuries respectively that have sidelined them since the end of December.

January buy from West Ham Pierre Ekwah was again named on the bench, with the midfielder having made his debut as a sub against Fulham last Saturday. Millwall boss Gary Rowett made two changes to the side that started last time out for the Lions, when they won 2-0 at Cardiff City a fortnight ago.

Charlie Cresswell and Murray Wallace came into the side, in place of Shaun Hutchinson and Callum Styles. Former Sunderland man George Honeyman started for the London side.

But another ex-Black Cat, deadline day signing from Middlesbrough Duncan Watmore, was on the bench.
