Joe Flacco still feels a little bit like a young fan around John Elway

Joe Flacco has been in the NFL for over a decade and he’s won a Super Bowl MVP award but he still finds it a little surreal to stand on the Broncos’ practice field next to the team’s accomplished general manager.

John Elway won two Super Bowls as a quarterback and he won a third title as an executive. Now he’s Flacco’s boss.

“I grew up watching John Elway, so there’s — while we’re kind of colleagues now and we’re sharing the same field — there’s still a little bit of that kid in you that, ‘Oh man, John Elway’s standing right next to me,'” Flacco said after practice Thursday.

“So you try to act as normal as possible and go ahead and shoot the breeze and just act like you’re a normal person.”

Elway traded a fourth-round draft pick to the Ravens in exchange for Flacco earlier this year. Flacco is 34 years old and nearing the backend of his career but Elway believes he still has something left to offer the team.

Flacco certainly appreciates the opportunity to extend his career as a starting quarterback.

“I feel like I’ve got a lot left in the tank,” Flacco said.

“And I feel like I can do a lot more than what I’ve really shown over the course of my 11-year career, so I’m excited that I’m going to have the opportunity here to do that.”
