Joe Flacco’s ‘cannon arm’ testing Broncos’ secondary at practice

Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco has plenty of doubters — he’s a bit of a punchline in some circles of NFL fandom.

But even the fans that mock Flacco and his stats can’t say anything about his arm strength. The veteran quarterback can still sling a football.

“He has a cannon,” cornerback Bryce Callahan said of Flacco after practice Tuesday. “I’m getting good looks every practice. That’s a good thing.”

Practicing against Flacco every day will help Callahan and the rest of Denver’s secondary prepare for big-armed QBs they will face during the season.

“You have to get some keys pre-snap and know what you’re going against — down and distance and what tenancies they like to do,” Callahan said of going up against strong-armed QBs. “Just little things that help you play your position better. You have to then make plays on the ball.”

It’s a great situation for Callahan to be because it will only make him a better player. “[Because] the ball is getting there quicker, you have to be a little bit faster,” he said.

The Flacco signing seems to already be paying off for the Broncos.
