Joe Flacco aiming to move the ball, build confidence in Broncos debut

After sitting out the Hall of Fame Game last week, quarterback Joe Flacco will make his Broncos debut Thursday evening against the Seahawks in Week 1 of NFL preseason. Flacco might only play one series, so he’s aiming to make it count, preferably with a scoring drive.

“You just want to go get your feet wet a little bit,” Flacco said after practice Tuesday. “You want to feel live action again, bodies flying around you, guys getting hit and taking care of the football.

“Most importantly, you want to go out there and you want to move the ball. And you want to gain confidence as a group that you can go out there and do it when it counts.”

Not all of Denver’s regular starting offensive linemen will suit up for Thursday’s game, but rookie left guard Dalton Risner will be on the field. He aims to make sure Flacco’s jersey stays as clean as possible.

“I’m sure that Joe is going to do an extremely good job and I look up to Joe Flacco a ton,” Risner said Tuesday. “Shoot, I think I might have been in middle school whenever he won the Super Bowl for the Ravens.

“Being out here blocking for him is an honor. I take a lot of pride in blocking for him because I know that he knows what he’s doing and he works his butt off every day in practice. My job every day is to go out there and protect him.”

Out-of-market fans can stream Thursday’s game (8 p.m. MT, locally on KTVD-20) using FuboTV (try it free).
