Joe Fitzpatrick ready to shine under Ulster Hall lights on massive MTK show

Joe Fitzpatrick is ready to shine under the Ulster Hall lights on Saturday night - and he believes a big Falls Road crowd can carry him to glory.

Fitzpatrick takes on Gary Cully for the BUI Irish Lightweight title at the iconic Belfast venue.

It is one of the big bouts on a massive MTK Fight Night bill.

Both Fitzpatrick and Cully are unbeaten in their pro careers.

Belfast boy Joe has eased to 10 straight wins including seven knockouts, while Cully has nine victories (4 KOs) without loss.

Someone's '0' will go this Saturday night, and Fitzpatrick believes a raucous crowd will inspire him to preserve his perfect record.

"This is a big card. I have only ever fought once at the Ulster Hall but that was in an exhibition fight years ago," he said.

"The atmosphere this Saturday will be electric. I have sold a lot of tickets, and there are about three or four other fighters from the Falls Road on the bill.

"So it will be packed with Falls Road people, and hopefully they will all be supporting me."

Some believe the bout will come down to the slick skills of Cully against Fitzpatrick's power.

But the Belfast boxer refuses to be labelled a one-tricky pony.

"I don't just have power. I have a game plan which people will see on Saturday night," he said.

"But he will definitely feel my power, no doubt about that.

"It is a massive fight for the both of us. I am really looking forward to it.

"I had a 10 week camp, probably the longest I have ever done.

"It has been brilliant. The sparring has been good, just everything about it went brilliant.

"I think a better opponent will definitely bring out the best in me. You're not going in there with someone who is trying to survive.

"It is going to bring the best out of me, and I think it will be an excellent fight.

"Everyone is talking about our fight. I don't see why this fight shouldn't be the headline."

Fitzpatrick added: "Gary is a sound fella. He wants the same as me. But I will get the win. I think it will be a breakthrough fight for me.

"And then we will push on to bigger things in 2020. I will get this out of the way and move on."
