Joe Duffy holds the claim to be the last Irishman to beat Conor McGregor and probably will forever more.
The Donegal native defeated the Dubliner in just 38 seconds in a Cage Warriors bout in 2010.
Ten years on and Duffy, who faces Joel Alvarez on the UFC's Fight Island in th early hours of Sunday morning, remembers beating McGregor very well.
He told talkSPORT: “I can remember the fight clear as day, everything about it to be honest.
“I suppose I am repeating myself here, but it wasn’t a big fight in the sense of like how people see it now. Obviously people see who Conor is now, but back then I had just lost on the Ultimate Fighter and for me it was just a case of bouncing back.
“It was about getting back on a tear, like I kind of felt at that stage in the game I was probably a bigger name.
“It was just a fight that I expected to win. So for me, it wasn’t as big as a deal as is seen now. But obviously it was a good win for me and a good start to my next tear, I suppose.”
Duffy is expecting a tough fight against Alvarez in Abu Dhabi as he bids to win his first bout in over three years, having lost his last two.
He added: “He’s a tough guy; in his last fight he hangs in there until the bitter end and then he turned the tide and obviously got that win so I’m expecting a tough fight.
“Obviously he is going to have some confidence after his last win; he is young and hungry so it’s going to be a tough night. There’s no easy fights in the lightweight division and in the UFC.”
