Joe Duffy listeners in awe at woman's random Christmas act of kindness

'Tis the season of goodwill and that's certainly the case for one particular person after their act of kindness was shared on Liveline this afternoon.

In an effort to get the nation into the Christmas spirit, today's edition of the show was dedicated to all those good Samaritans out there who help others without looking for any recognition in return.

After hearing heartwarming stories of people reuniting children with their Christmas presents that were delivered to the wrong address and a gardai helping a woman that was stranded on the road, a lady named Anne in Castletroy, Limerick shared another act of kindness that she witnessed.

While shopping in the local SuperValu, Anne noticed that the shopper at the till was having difficulties with her card, which was holding up the line.

After disappearing to resolve the issue, the shopper behind this lady - the one that that was experiencing problems with her card -actually paid for her few items.

When the lady that was having issues with her card returned, she discovered that all her groceries were paid for by this mysterious and kind stranger that was aged about 28/29.

Rather than wait for a thank you, this young woman left, only for the two women to meet in the car park where they exchanged pleasantries.

"The young girl never made eye contact with her, never made an issue that she paid for her groceries, she just quietly and discretely paid for the groceries - her own ones and those of this stranger - before quietly leaving the shop. I couldn't believe it," said Anne.

All in all, this kind young lady spent €70 of her own money on the grocery bill of this stranger.

"To pay €70 for a random stranger's groceries is incredible, we're so quick to give out about the younger generation but this lady has to be acknowledged. She was so polite and patient. They literally just did this lovely and kind act without any fuss," said Anne.

A lovely gesture that's definitely deserving of recognition.
