Joe Duffy and RTE listeners stunned at 'miserable' Christmas gift given to staff

Joe Duffy and RTE Liveline listeners were left stunned after a caller said a group of 30 staff were given a single box of Quality Street as a Christmas gift.

Nurses in a busy hospital ward were given the gift, with no more than 80 sweets inside, to divide between the 30 members of staff.

One lady called in to say she believed that while the managers meant well, that the gesture was a bit "tone deaf".

The Quality Street box, which can be bought for less than €5 in many shops, was the source of great annoyance.

Irate caller Seamus Healy added: "One miserable box of sweets, they've a neck like you know what."

A social media user said: "That is pathetic. They want to make themselves feel good saying they got the nurses something but this is ridiculous."

Another added: "Yes this is a fine show of appreciation a similar show was seen in April when we got a round of applause and a dose of Covid."

What do you make of it? And have you ever been given gifts that you didn't feel were enough?
