Joe Duffy and RTE listeners in disbelief as woman explains how she burned €300 cash

Listeners of RTE Radio One's Liveline this afternoon were left in disbelief after a woman managed to burn €300 cash.

Mary Ellen rang into Joe Duffy and said she was hoping the Central Bank would replace the cash she accidentally destroyed.

The lady had hidden her money in the oven and forgotten about it - then turning on the machine and roasting up hundreds of euro in cash.

And amazed listeners took to social media to express their sympathy and also disbelief that it happened.

One helpful Twitter user said: "Ah god I’ll give her some money towards it myself this is so something my granny would have done."

Another said they were "howling" at the misfortune while plenty of whitty remarks were thrown in.

"She should check her bank account Incase she accidentally lodged a cake in it.", the words of Richard Parker.

Patrick Murray added: "Thank god it wasn’t the washing machine, that could have been money laundering."

While Mick O'Farrell said: "I'm sure the Central Bank will want exact details, so she might have to be grilled herself."

The woman was speaking in part of a segment where many people explained how they lost or destroyed money in unfortunate circumstances.
