Joe Duffy and listeners amazed by kind garda who helped woman after clutch had burnt out

If anyone was looking for a little bit of Christmas spirit and a sense of community, kindness, and care, Margaret O'Dywer's story on Liveline might just do the trick.

During Thursday's edition of the show, she called Joe Duffy to recount her story about a stranger who recently drove her to Cavan after her car broke down in Kells.

It turns out that Margaret was heading to Virginia, when her car ran into difficulty in Meath.

Rather than having to wait on the site of the road, a kind stranger drove her to her destination, but there was one more pleasant surprise in store.

It turns out that this kind stranger was Sergeant Paul McManus of Trim Garda Station.

On today's show, the two were reunited on-air and the story made quite the impression on those who tuned in.

"I laughed out loud at 'I'll take you to Virginia!!' Exactly what I thought, like something out of a movie! Great story!" said one person on social media.

Another person added: "Fair play to Sergeant Paul McManus of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors. A nice story."

Elsewhere on today's show, Joe and his listeners helped to make it a very happy Christmas for two children - Daisy and Dylan - after gifts that were sent by their grandparents were delivered to the wrong address.

Thankfully, a good Samaritan named Grainne Roche took in a package and continue to search for its rightful owners.

Thankfully, the Liveline listeners proved their worth once again as they were able to identify Daisy and Dylan's father.

The two children are set to be reunited with the parcels, which are currently in Maynooth.

This isn't the first time this month that a friendly member of An Garda Siochana stopped to help a member of the public with their car issues.

Garda Conall Shaw and Garda Nathan Lowry of Balbriggan Garda Station stopped to assist an elderly member of the public who ran into some car trouble in Lusk, Dublin.

When this person's car broke down, Garda Shaw and Lowry were on hand to help out and alleviate the stressful situation.

With the Christmas seasons set to be a busy one for officers around the country, the Gardai also used the opportunity to make the public aware that they're always on hand if anyone needs help and support.

"If you need assistance, please give us a call," they state.
