Joe Cole makes Romelu Lukaku prediction as Chelsea target summer transfer deal

Joe Cole believes Chelsea "would take" Romelu Lukaku this summer, with the west London club linked with a move for their former striker.

According to the Sunday World, the Blues have identified Lukaku as one of their top targets this summer, as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his attacking options.

As well as this, the outlet claims that Roman Abramovich sees the Belgium forward as one of his favourite strikers, despite his exit from Stamford Bridge in 2014.

Timo Werner has endured a mixed first campaign at Chelsea, on a personal level, with the Germany striker showing glimpses of his quality but has struggled somewhat in front of goal.

Cole, formerly of the Blues, thinks his old club should sign Lukaku to replace Werner if the Belgian is available at the right price.

“I think Werner is a quality player who Chelsea needs but if Lukaku is available at the right price then Chelsea would take him,” Cole is quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“He is one of the top strikers and every team will strengthen this year. To win titles, you need options and a mix of different types of players to win.”

Lukaku is being heavily linked with a move away from Inter Milan following Antonio Conte's San Siro departure last week.

The 28-year-old moved to Inter in 2019 for around £70million from Manchester United, after an underwhelming spell at Old Trafford.

But the Belgium international has flourished in Italy, with the only person to score more goals that him in the Serie A being Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo.

With over three years remaining on his deal with the Milan-based outfit, they stand in a very strong position in terms of negotiating a price for their striker.
