Joe Cole makes major West Ham United admission after Manuel Pellegrini sacking

Former West Ham United star Joe Cole has opened up on his old side's decision to sack Manuel Pellegrini and his potential interest in a role at the club.

The Hammers sit 17th in the Premier League just one point and one place above the relegation zone after a disappointing defeat at home to Leicester City.

The Foxes turned up to the London Stadium with a more inexperienced side after changes aplenty due to the fixture congestion of the festive period.

However, it wasn't enough for the Hammers to pick up some valuable points and Pellegrini to save his job.

Cole was asked about the decision during his stint on BT Sport for the clash between Burnley and Manchester United.

"For me first of all you don't like to see anyone lose his job. He's a top manager and he couldn't change the culture," Cole told BT Sport.

"West Ham need to sort out the players they sign. They are getting second rate because they can't eat off the top table.

"Two things need to happen. They need to survive and then change the culture.

"There needs to be better communication to the fans. My philosophy at West Ham would be to go and buy young and hungry players. They want style and commitment.

"David Moyes is a fantastic manager and he would do a good job if he came in. But it needs to be right underneath him."

Asked if he was interested in a role at the Hammers, Cole responded: "There are only two clubs I would leave you guys for and it would be West Ham and Chelsea. I'd walked to both clubs now."
