Joe Cole highlights the immediate improvements David Moyes has made at West Ham

Former West Ham midfielder Joe Cole has heaped praise upon David Moyes for the improvements he has quickly overseen upon his return to East London.

Moyes led the Hammers to a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth in the Premier League last time out in his first game in charge back at the London Stadium, providing a much-needed boost at the turn of the year.

He will now be looking to make it two wins from two in the FA Cup third-round clash with Gillingham, with West Ham looking to avoid yet another cup upset.

While there is still work to do, Cole has highlighted the immediate improvements that Moyes has made upon the squad following the victory over Bournemouth.

“There’s massive changes and massive signs of progress. What he did brilliantly was he got them compact. We spoke to Mark Noble earlier this season and he was singing the praises of his squad, saying it’s one of the best squads he has had,” he told BT Sport.

“Moyes has got Felipe Anderson, his best player, playing in a central position, getting close to [Sebastien] Haller and getting high up the pitch. The intensity, the work rate, the runners and the quick breaks, that’s something that we haven’t seen from West Ham and that was evident in the first game.

“It’s not going to change in one game but the signs are there. I think he will be very, very happy with the work in his first few days in the job.”
