Joe Cole describes how Arsenal fans will be feeling as Olivier Giroud nets four for Chelsea

Former Chelsea winger Joe Cole says Arsenal fans will be 'sitting at home' wondering why on earth their club decided to allow Olivier Giroud to depart.

Giroud made a statement to Chelsea boss Frank Lampard on Wednesday amid a lack of game-time, scoring four times for the Blues, including a perfect hat-trick and a penalty.

The Frenchman became the first Chelsea player to score four in a European tie with his goals helping the Blues to secure top spot in their group with a game to spare.

Giroud now has six goals in 10 appearances across all competitions, despite eight of those coming off the bench, and his recent record will be leaving Arsenal with regret, according to former Blues winger turned pundit Cole.

The Gunners sold Giroud to London rivals, Chelsea, for around £15million in 2018.

"(He was) Faultless, flawless," Cole said on BT Sport after Chelsea's win over Sevilla. "We had a lovely montage of him playing but he has gobbled it up with all his goals, we can only show his goals!

"If you are an Arsenal fan sitting at home, you will be thinking 'how have we let him go?'.

"He is such a great professional, such a great player. He affects the game and he has given Frank a massive headache, a good headache. He has to go with Giroud."

Cole also spoke about how Giroud set an example for his fellow out-of-favour Blues players with Lampard making nine changes for the clash with Sevilla, giving a number of players the opportunity to impress.

Cole added: "Frank can go in the dressing room and all those players tonight, he will say 'look at Giroud, his attitude, he comes in, he gets his goals and he is playing Saturday'.

"That keeps the group together. You know that if you do the business then you will be in the team."
