Joe Canning injury update after Galway star stretchered off in All-Ireland semi-final

Joe Canning was brought to hospital after suffering concussion in yesterday's All-Ireland semi-final.

The Galway forward was stretchered off in their three-point loss to Limerick at Croke Park.

The Tribesmen ace scored twelve points, including four sideline cuts, but his evening was a cut short after a nasty collision with teammate Joseph Cooney.

Canning dispossessed a Limerick defender, and as he bent down to pick up the ball, collided with an on-rushing Cooney.

The defender appeared to knock into Canning's neck or head as the Portumna man fell to the ground.

He was treated for several minutes on the field before worryingly being stretchered off in a head brace as fears grew that he may had suffered a neck injury.

There were more than nine minutes of injury time played at Croke Park as a result of the injury.

RTE Sport reported that the injury sustained was not a neck injury and that Canning was suffering from a suspected concussion after the game, but Galway boss Shane O'Neill did not confirm his condition.

Speaking to reporters a few minutes after the final whistle, O'Neill said that he was yet to find out how Canning was faring.

"I don't know," said O'Neill. "He's in the medical room and I didn't get the opportunity to check the situation yet.

"It was an epic battle between two ridiculously good sides, I just thought that it was extremely tough throughout for both sides, extremely physical, there wasn't much space and it was a credit to the boys to actually exploit it and it makes me proud of what they achieved out there with the performance."
