Joe Canning and Aaron Gillane hospitalised after All-Ireland hurling semi-final

Joe Canning and Aaron Gillane were both in hospital last night over picking up injuries in Sunday's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship semi-final.

Galway ace Canning scored twelve points, including four sideline cuts, in yesterday's game, but was stretchered off after suffering concussion following a nasty collision with teammate Joseph Cooney. He was released from hospital on Sunday night and returned to Galway.

Limerick forward Gillane was kept in hospital for observation after suffering a back injury in the Treaty men's three-point win at Croke Park.

John Kiely's side will now face Waterford in next month's decider.

The Limerick manager wished Canning well after Sunday's clash.

He said: "We sincerely hope Joe is OK and will be back on his feet very shortly, but I was glad of the break for some of our guys at the time because they were under pressure."

Galway also lost key man Cathal Mannion through injury early in the game and their boss Shane O'Neill said after the game: "Cathal was a loss, yeah, but when you look at the substitutes, they were fantastic when they came on, every single one of them.

"The 15 today, the five, the other six who didn't get the gametime today and the boys at home, we've just been immensely proud of everything they've done over the last month or two, really.

"They've just been unbelievable for us and they've done Galway so proud".
