Joe Burrow surgery details, return timeline revealed in new report

Much about the specifics and return timeline surrounding the season-ending injury to Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has been enshrouded in mystery.

Until now, it seems.

According to a report from the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway, Burrow underwent surgery to repair a torn scapholunate ligament, an operation performed by Dr. Thomas Graham.

More important for fans, though, is the reported recovery timeline of four to six months.

And this, via Conway: “Burrow’s recovery process will be closely tracked as the injury took place on his throwing hand. Burrow and the team’s medical staff will decide whether he throws in the spring.”

So as it stands now, Burrow isn’t a guarantee to participate in any spring activities and a training camp return might make more sense, provided he doesn’t blow past recovery estimates like he did with the knee injury.

Perhaps more important than anything, none of the new revelations conflict with the team’s statement that he’s expected to make a full recovery. Until more information comes out, fans can still expect to see Burrow on the sidelines with a headset supporting Jake Browning as his Bengals attempt to make a playoff push.
