Joe Burrow probably told Bengals at combine meet he wants to play with A.J. Green

Joe Burrow wasn’t shy about sending a message of sorts to the Cincinnati Bengals about his desire to play with A.J. Green.

Burrow made it clear during his combine press conference and from the sounds of it, did so again during his actual sitdown with the team, according to Peter King of NBC Sports:

8. On Joe Burrow. He met with a Bengals delegation Wednesday night, one of his official meetings here. Though he said he would play for the team that drafts him, I still get the feeling he wants to see more devotion to winning than the Bengals have shown. Cincinnati is 8-24 in the last two years; the Bengals’ last playoff win was 30 years ago.

No shock here — if Burrow said it publicly why wouldn’t he reiterate it behind closed doors?

It’s nice for fans to hear the next potential franchise quarterback is already throwing his weight around a bit in the pursuit of winning. But realistically, the Bengals were never going to let Green get away in the first place.

Anyone from the organization who spoke publicly over the course of the past year made it clear Green would receive a tag if a long-term agreement wasn’t reached and Green himself said he’d play under the tag.

Potentially more concerning is whether Green can stay on the field with Burrow to make an impact given his injury history. But as of now, Burrow-to-Green is still very much on the table.
