Joe Burrow fights through tears to thank Ed Orgeron during epic Heisman speech

Joe Burrow and his coach Ed Orgeron shared a beautiful moment on Saturday in New York during the 2019 Heisman Trophy ceremony.

Burrow delivered an emotional speech after receiving the award, and the LSU quarterback made a touching statement about his coach while fighting through tears.

“You have no idea what you mean to my family,” Burrow said at the podium. “I didn’t play for three years. You took a chance on me, not knowing if I could play or not, and I’m forever in your — forever grateful for you. Can you imagine a guy like Coach O giving me the keys to his football program? He just means so much to me and my family and to LSU. I sure hope they give him a lifetime contract. He deserves it.”

Burrow beat out Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.

Burrow joined the LSU Tigers as a transfer from Ohio State in 2018, and won the starting job that season before developing into college football’s best and most productive quarterback in 2019. He and offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger began to revamp and LSU offense, which had lacked luster for what felt like all of recorded time.

This season, Burrow completed 77.9 % of his passes for 4,715 yards, 48 touchdowns and six interceptions. That’s largely why LSU is the No. 1 team in the nation ahead of the College Football Playoffs. And that’s why Burrow is the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, if he declares.

Here’s a look at the whole speech, which was pretty darn impressive by the 23-year-old.
