Joe Burrow as Joe Montana? Phil Simms thinks so

Joe Burrow just keeps earning fans and fun comparisons along the way.

While keeping pace historically with the likes of Dan Marino, he’s also earning comparisons to the likes of Joe Montana.

Just ask former elite quarterback Phil Simms, who appeared on “Inside the NFL” and made the big comparison, as noted by CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo:

“Smooth, graceful, great feet. Really knows how to move in the pocket. Throws the ball in tremendous rhythm…

“Joe [Montana] is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time. … Joe Burrow’s a little quicker, probably a little more athletic, and maybe a little bit of a stronger arm than Joe Montana. And just the uncanny ability to just know how to play the game, and I think that that comes from Joe Burrow’s background that he was just an all-around athlete growing up. It shows when you watch him play. … His movement in the pocket and just buying time has been really, really good for him so far this year.”

Simms would know — he won two Super Bowls and was the MVP in one of those games.

It’s not an accident so many knowledgeable names throw out big-time comparisons for Burrow. He simply looks the part of an elite modern passer who uplifts everyone around him.

Even better, now that he’s finally played a full 16 games to start his career, those 16-game numbers look amazing.

Only time will reveal whether Burrow can live up to this sort of comparison, but it’s being made by a mind like Simms for a reason.
