Joe Brolly vows to never watch another All-Ireland final sober

Joe Brolly has vowed never to watch another All-Ireland final sober after joining punters to see Dublin's historic victory over Kerry on Saturday evening.

The controversial pundit was replaced on the RTE panel for the much-anticipated replay by former Mayo boss Stephen Rochford.

But Brolly, a mainstay in RTE's football coverage for decades, has taken the positives from the situaiton.

He wrote in his column for the Sunday Independent: "One door closes. Another opens. I will never again watch an All-Ireland final sober.

"After four pints of stout, one sees the game in a deeper, more meaningful light."

Brolly took some heat for his comments on Meath referee David Gough's performance in drawn final between Kerry and Dublin.

But, having since apologised to Gough, the Derryman revealed he shared a joke with the referee during yesterday's decider.

"After a few hours of fun and chat with Kerry and Dublin supporters, I took my seat in the stand, and felt genuine excitement.

"I texted David Gough to say, 'This is all your fault.' He texted back, 'I should have given that free out!'

"David remains in danger of giving referees a good name."
