Joe Brolly has his say on 'inevitable' All-Ireland Club final ruling

Joe Brolly says the GAA's decision to order a replay for the All-Ireland Club SFC final was "inevitable".

The GAA's CCCC ruled a replay of the decider between Glen and Kilmacud must take place following a hearing on Monday night

The initial meeting between the sides on January 22 ended in controversy when Dublin champions Kilmacud were found to have had 16 active players on the pitch in the final moments of the game, which they won by two points.

Under rule 6.44, penalties for having more than 15 players on the pitch include the awarding of the game to the opposing team, for the game to be replayed, or a fine.

It remains to be seen whether Kilmacud will contest the decision before the Central Hearing Committee. The club has three days to decide.

Taking to Twitter shortly after the replay verdict, Brolly said: "A replay was inevitable. It was a decision to protect the future. The GAA had no choice. Management teams now know they must get their substitutions correct.

"No chances can be taken. The rule will in future be rigorously followed. End of."

Some fans have questioned the future of rolling substitutions, with the onus currently on the team making the change to ensure it happens correctly.

One supporter believes a system similar to that used in soccer should be introduced.

They tweeted: "The Elephant in the Room though is that the current substitution process in the GAA is not fit for purpose. Half Way Line - No one on until someone goes off - Yellow card if a player enters the field early. No more slips of paper."

Another GAA fan hit out at the decision to replay the final, stating: "I personally think a replay of the All-Ireland is an overly harsh punishment for what was essentially an officiating error. Obviously Kilmacud don’t want a replay and I wonder do Glen?"
