Joe Brolly breaks silence after omission from RTE All-Ireland final panel

Joe Brolly has broken his silence after being replaced for RTE Sunday Game's live coverage of the All-Ireland football final replay.

The pundit is now on the hunt for a ticket after Donegal coach Stephen Rochford was drafted in as his replacement for Saturday evening's coverage.

Taking to Twitter this afternoon, Brolly joked: "If anyone has a spare ticket for the replay, I’ve just been let down".

The Derryman has been a mainstay of the national broadcaster's coverage of the finale in recent years but won't be on air for Dublin and Kerry's replay.

It comes after Brolly questioned the decision-making of referee David Gough in the drawn game.

Brolly and fellow pundit Ciaran Whelan took issue with Gough for showing Dublin's Jonny Cooper a second yellow card for fouling David Clifford.

Whelan called it a “disgraceful” decision, while Brolly went as far as saying that the referee was “clearly influenced by the propaganda coming from Kerry”.

Both have since rowed pack on their comments with Whelan changing his mind upon seeing the incident again, while Brolly has since spoke to Gough and admitted the referee got it right.

Paraphrasing Gough, Brolly wrote in his Sunday Independent column: “‘(Clifford) checking an opponent in those circumstances is fine. So, although David plays him, the first foul occurs when Jonny grabs his arm. As you can see, I had no choice.’ Put like that, it is absolutely true. So there you have it. Every day is a school day.”

He added: "I suggested in the heat of the moment that referee David Gough may have been influenced by the propaganda emanating from Kerry in the lead-up to the game.

"Afterwards, I contacted him to apologise for this. It was wrong of me and unfair on David, who is a man of integrity and honour."

Presenter Joanne Cantwell will be joined on Saturday by Pat Spillane, Whelan and Rochford, with Ger Canning and Kevin McStay on commentary.
