Joe Biden’s presidential election win means the return of dogs to the White House, with his and wife Dr Jill Biden’s pets Major and Champ Biden set to join them in DC.
And it appears the dogs are all set to undertake their official duties as first dogs - possible in part due to the creation of their social media accounts.
A day after it was announced that Mr Biden had won the election, the Twitter account @First_Dogs_USA was created for Champ and his brother Major, who will be the first rescue dog in the White House.
“Hello America! Hello world! It’s us, Champ and Major. We are the Bidens’ family puppers and First Dogs Elect(s) of USA. We want to thank you all for your suppawrt by sharing our pawsidential adventures here! Woof! Woof!” one of the account’s first tweets reads.
In another tweet, the dogs, presumably with the help of their humans, expressed their excitement at their upcoming journey and their father’s inauguration.
“We can’t wait until Inpawguration Day! Especially Major, because he hasn’t been to the White House yet. So It’s going to be my respawnsibility to show him around, as I know all the best spots and where to get treats from. Woof! #DOTUS #FirstDogs,” Champ wrote.
The dogs, who explained they will go by Dotus in their bio, also shared an important reminder about putting aside differences with a tweet about George and Laura Bush’s rescue animals.
“We woof like to say hi to our friends Bernadette, Bob and Freddy Bush. Just like Major, Freddy & Bob are rescues. We never met nose to nose but just like our dads, we admire & pawppreciate each other. Despite common misconceptions, dogs & cats can be very good friends,” Mr Biden’s German Shepherds reminded their more than 152,000 Twitter followers.
The first dogs have made it to Instagram as well, where they have the same handle, and where they have amassed more than 31,000 followers.
Major and Champ’s excitement has been matched by their followers, who have expressed their happiness over the dogs having their own social media accounts.
“This is so adorable I can’t,” one person commented, while another said: “Congratulations!! We are so happy to have the two of you on your way to the White House!!”
