Joe Biden's Celtic code name revealed as President-elect underlines Irish connection

US President-elect Joe Biden will be referred to as ' Celtic ' by the Secret Service when he moves into the White House in January.

The former VP is projected to win the 2020 election after a hard-fought campaign against incumbent Donald Trump as Pennsylvania and Nevada finish tallying votes.

And the incoming Leader of the Free World has chosen to be referred to as 'Celtic' by the Secret Service, according to CNN.

Code names are bestowed upon presidents and high-ranking members of government, with Trump referred to as 'Mogul' and predecessor Barack Obama as 'Renegade'

Biden's great, great, great grandfather Edward Blewitt was from Ballina, County Mayo, and left Ireland for the United States during the potato famine.

The President-elect visited the town in both 2016 and 2017 and has chosen to underline his Irish connection with his call sign.

It's not the only Scottish football connection in the election, as defeated President Trump once tried to buy Rangers.

A takeover was mooted in 2012 but the reality TV star backed out of a deal.

A source told the Wall Street Journal: "We looked seriously and walked away.

"It just did not make sense to us, although they are a great club."
