Scots have been left stunned after Joe Biden mispronounced the name of their country's largest city.
The US President used a speech today to call for faster action to protect the environment ahead of the landmark COP26 conference due to take place in Glasgow this November.
Biden, who is expected to visit Scotland for the global summit, said people "must make decisions that will avoid the worst consequences of the climate crisis".
And while few people could disagree with that sentiment, it's what else he said that left Glaswegians raising their eyebrows.
"The steps we take between now and Glasgow," Biden said, "will set the world up for success to protect livelihoods around the world."
Instead of pronouncing "Glaz-go" as Scots would, the leader of the free world chose "Glasss-cow".
Of course, Biden would not be the first American to struggle with Scottish place names. Edinburgh residents have long complained that their city should not be pronounced in the same way as Pittsburgh.
But his speech certainly got a reacton on Twitter.
"By way of penance for his pronunciation of Glasgow, it's only fair that Joe Biden should should add a few percentage points on the US greenhouse gas emission targets," tweeted Scottish journalist Martyn McLaughlin.
While Gareth Reynolds summed it up: "The way Biden says Glasgow makes me cringe".
And one American journalist, Alexander Kauffman, said: "I want the same people who do Kremlinology-level decoding of Biden's UK-Irish political statements to explain to me why Biden pronounces the second syllable of Glasgow like "cow" or "now." Thanks."
Jess Shankleman added: "I like how Biden says GlasGOW, almost as good as Edinbo-ro."
