Well, doggone it! Joe Biden, senator from Delaware and, until yesterday, a vice-presidential hopeful, stands before us today a broken man, humiliated, irrelevant and alone, after he idiotically used the word "Bosniaks" to describe ethnic Muslim residents of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Within hours, Mona Charen at the National Review magazine's life-affirmingly ridiculous blog The Corner had erupted in smuggery:
Our family's favorite moment last night was when Joe Biden crowed about his diplomatic skills. "I brought Serbs, Croatians, and Bosniaks together." My son David: "Captain we've detected a Bosniak ship on our sensors." "On screen."
There was similar amusement at Biden's obviously fabricated word elsewhere in the right-wing blogosphere. Even on PBS, Cokie Roberts, called it a gaffe. It is of course the correct terminology, as many people have been pointing out. But this is no excuse. Biden is shamed this morning, and must immediately withdraw from the race.
(He can spend the rest of his sorry existence sipping cups of coffee in Katie's Restaurant, the Wilmington establishment he invited us all to visit during yesterday's debate. Oh, hang on — actually that was a sort of a gaffe.)
