Joe Biden Irish visit: US president faces first hard decision as Dublin pub 'carvery and pints offer' sent

Joe Biden's schedule has been wiped clean today we imagine as he faces his first and most difficult decision as US president.

The 46th commander-in-chief has been made an offer he simply can't refuse ahead of a possible Irish trip during the 78-year-old's tenure.

Despite his strong Mayo and Louth connections, Biden is weighing up his options after being sent a yummy carvery and pints invite by a Dublin councillor.

Tallaght Councillor Liam Sinclair has pulled out all the stops to tempt the new President with some spuds and the delicious prospect of some scoops after in a fine Tallaght establishment.

Cllr Sinclair said: "I’d like to take this opportunity, as chair of the Tallaght Area Committee, to invite Joe Bide to a carvery and a couple of pints in the The Old Mill, when his schedule allows."

All joking aside, the Irish cousins of Joe Biden were full of emotion and pride yesterday as he was sworn in.

There were celebrations in homes in counties Mayo and Louth as relatives sipped champagne and American flags were waved just before 5pm.

Joe Blewitt, a third cousin of US President Biden, watched the emotional inauguration speech with his dad Brendan, wife Deirdre, sister Laurita and his three young kids.

He said: “The speech was amazing.

“It was fabulous to see him being sworn in, it was unreal.

“It’s a very proud day for us.

“You can see he’s really eager to get in and get started.”

Mr Biden’s great-great grandfather Edward Blewitt and wife Mary emigrated from Ballina, Co Mayo more than 160 years ago.

The Blewitt family settled in Scranton in Pennsylvania where almost a century later the future presidential hopeful was born.
