Joe Biden could be banned from taking his Peloton bike to White House over security fears

Joe Biden may be stopped from bringing his Peleton exercise bike with him to the White House as it could pose a security risk.

The 78-year-old Democrat is thought to start his mornings with a workout on the high-tech machine which links riders up online for intense work out classes.

The £1,400 bike comes complete with microphone, camera and access to the internet, which could open it up to unwanted attention.

According to the New York Post, Peloton’s own security and compliance page warns that “no matter how much effort we put into system security, there can still be vulnerabilities present".

Max Kilger, director of the Data Analytics Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio, told Popular Mechanics that even though there are firewalls and intrusion detection software, “those things can be gotten around if you’re really good and skilled".

He added that most worryingly the bike has networking equipment that allows internet access to other device.

Mr Kilger said: "So someone could actually attack that Peloton bike, install malware, and reach out to other places in the White House."

The most likely safety measure would be to “yank out the camera, you yank out the microphone, and you yank out the networking equipment,” Mr Kilger added.

“And you basically have a boring bike. You lose the shiny object and the attractiveness."

Peloton declined to comment.

Mr Biden is set to become the oldest President the USA has ever had when he is inaugurated later today.
