Joe Bachie and Kenny Willekes are sure getting plenty of hype heading into the season. We already wrote about these two guys getting named the Bednarik Award Watch List, but it was also released that they are on the Nagurski Award Watch List as well. Like the Bednarik Award, the Nagurski Award is given to the top defensive player in college football.
There are 92 players on the Nagurski Award Watch List and will be voted on by the Football Writers Association of America.
Along with the Bednarik Award, Joe Bachie is also on the Butkus Award Watch List which honors the top linebacker in the NCAA.
This is also the third watch list for Willekes after he was named to the Walter Camp Award Watch List last week as well. The Walter Camp Award is given to the top overall player in college football, period.
I do think Raequan Williams is just as good as these guys and could have made the list as well but it’s a little harder for interior defensive linemen to be included on these lists because they don’t generate as many turnovers and counting stats.
