Joe Aribo twist as Rangers face competition from two Premier League clubs

Lee Bowyer has revealed two Premier League clubs have made late moves to sign Rangers target Joe Aribo.

Steven Gerrard wants to make Aribo his seventh summer capture and reports indicate the out-of-contract star has told the Charlton boss his heart was set on a move to Ibrox.

The Addicks appear increasingly resigned to losing the midfielder after holding crunch talks on Friday.

But, speaking to talkSPORT, Bowyer insists the 22-year-old's destination remains up in the air and that clubs in France and Germany had also enquired.

But their interest may have come too late amid claims Aribo will undergo a medical with Rangers in the next 48 hours.

Boywer said: “Other clubs are interested, we can’t deny that.

“It’s gonna be tough to keep Joe at the moment.

“There are Premier League clubs interested, I spoke to two yesterday.

“Obviously in Scotland you’ve got Rangers that are interested and there are clubs in France and Germany.

“We’ve got competition to fight against.

“Joe loves it at Charlton. But if Premier League clubs come in, financially and from the point of view of playing against the world’s top players every week, it’s tough for a kid to turn down.

“Everyone wants to play at the top. I’ve been in the game so I understand.

“I’d love to keep him but I think it’s gonna be difficult.”
