Joe Aribo showcases Rangers magic as Nigeria hero sets tongues wagging with AFCON touch of class

Joe Aribo stole the show in Nigeria's AFCON win over Egypt as the Rangers playmaker outshone Mo Salah on the big stage.

It was a cagey encounter between two of African football's biggest names as they slugged it out in the Group D opener.

There wasn't much between the sides and there wasn't much in terms of goalmouth action to note.

The best early chance fell to Moses Simon after a classy Aribo pass put him through on goal only for the Nantes hitman to fluff his lines.

The only goal of the game came later in the first half through a spectacular Kelechi Iheanacho finish.

But it was once again Aribo who made it brought the ball down on his chest out of the air to lay it off for the Leicester striker.

In an otherwise cagey game, Aribo's elegant performance caught the eye and fans flocked to Twitter during the game to praise him.

One fan noted that Rangers might be bracing for offers now as they labelled it "the Joe Aribo show.

"Never mind people seeing Premiership games, it’s AFCON Rangers should’ve been dreading," they wrote. "The Joe Aribo show."

Another tweeted: "Joe Aribo is a special footballer. What a f****** wizard."

One fan said: "Joe Aribo is a Rolls Royce kind of player, fell in love with him since that game against Brazil."

While another joked that Aribo is just what Manchester United have been missing.

"Aribo is what people pretend Pogba is."
