Joe Aribo 'set to join Rangers on four year deal' despite late Premier League contact

Rangers are set to complete a deal for Charlton midfielder Joe Aribo - according to a report.

Steven Gerrard wants to make the midfielder his seventh summer signing and he could undergo a medical with a view to signing a four year deal this weekend.

Aribo's contract at The Valley is up this summer and Addicks boss Lee Bowyer made a late pitch to keep him on Friday.

He then revealed earlier today two Premier League clubs had contacted him over the 22-year-old within the past 24 hours.

But, according to the Daily Mail, that interest has come too late as Rangers stand on the verge of an agreement.

Charlton will be due a compensation fee due to Aribo's age, expected to be around £300,000.

And while Bowyer refused to throw in the towel over keeping the highly-rated star, he appeared increasingly resigned he would be heading elsewhere.

He told talkSPORT earlier on Saturday: “Other clubs are interested, we can’t deny that.

“It’s gonna be tough to keep Joe at the moment.

“There are Premier League clubs interested, I spoke to two yesterday.

“Obviously in Scotland you’ve got  Rangers that are interested and there are clubs in France and Germany.

"We’ve got competition to fight against."
