Joe Aribo opens up on Rangers 'mentor' Steven Gerrard as he reveals his best position

Joe Aribo admits Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is helping him improve his game.

The midfielder was speaking in an interview with the Nigerian football association and was full of praise for the Ibrox gaffer.

Aribo impressed when he first arrived in Glasgow but has struggled with the physicality of the game at times.

He's still viewed as a key player for Gerrard and is determined to make a success of himself in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old has scored five goals in 26 appearances for Rangers while also grabbing two goals in four games for Nigeria since making his debut.

And when asked about Gerrard, he said: "He’s my manager but he’s just so down to earth. He’s a mentor to me. He helps me and gives me pointers on how to improve my game.

"I don’t look too far, I just want to keep my head down, playing for Rangers and doing the best I can and us getting as much success as possible."

Aribo's best position is something being questioned by Rangers fans with many feeling he needs to play as a No 10.

He has generally played on the left hand side of a midfield three although has started on the right hand side of the attack in the last two games.

But Aribo views himself as being best further back and said: "Definitely box-to-box midfielder, I'd say that's the best one for me because I like to get up the pitch and use my energy in the game.''
