Joe Aribo opens up on 'dream' Nigeria call as Rangers star looks for international honours

Joe Aribo has revealed his delight at earning a maiden international call-up with Nigeria.

The Rangers midfielder is English-born but has always spoken of his hope of playing for the Super Eagles, the country of his parents' birth.

He's being tipped as a replacement for former Chelsea star John Obi-Mikel in the national set-up and he admits it's everything he's always wanted.

Aribo has been in fine form for Rangers since moving north of the border and his call-up is further evidence that criticism from Charlton boss Lee Bowyer and former manager Chris Powell was uncalled for.

Speaking to allnigeriasoccer.com, Aribo said: ''I am very happy, it is a dream come true to receive the call-up.

''My agent was the first person to inform me that I was invited to the Super Eagles. I had spoken to one of the assistant coaches in the team before the invitation.''

The midfielder will hope to make his Nigeria in the clash against Ukraine in September.

The 23-year-old earned his call-up after netting three goals for Steven Gerrard 's side in his first seven appearances.

All of those have come in the Europa League with goals against St Joseph's, Progres Niederkorn and Midtjylland.
