Joe Aribo heading to Rangers as Ibrox club win race to land Charlton midfielder

Rangers have won the race to sign Joe Aribo.

The in-demand Charlton midfielder will undergo a medical on Monday and, all going well, will fly to Portugal to join the Rangers squad at their pre-season training camp.

The 22-year-old will sign a four-year contract to become Steven Gerrard's seventh signing of the summer.

Midfield powerhouse Aribo helped the Addicks win promotion to the Championship after a successful season in League One.

Aston Villa, Derby and Southampton had all been linked with the player while Celtic were also understood to have an interest in him last month.

Aribo played 97 times for Charlton, scoring 16 goals before leaving the club at the end of the season following promotion.

Lee Bowyer was desperate to keep hold of the player and held last ditch talks on Friday.

But Aribo is eager for a new challenge which will come in the shape of trying to stop Celtic hitting 9 in a row.

The Londoners will be due a compensation fee due to Aribo's age, expected to be around £300,000.

The former Staines Town youngster joins George Edmundson, Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie, Steven Davis, Greg Stewart and Sheyi Ojo in signing on the dotted line at Ibrox.
