Joe Aribo enters Rangers talks as Martin Olsson move ruled out by Ibrox club

Rangers have opened talks with Joe Aribo as the midfielder weighs up several offers to take him away from Charlton Athletic.

The Ibrox club have joined a queue of sides that reportedly includes Celtic, Southampton and Aston Villa in a bid to lure the 22-year-old to Glasgow.

He will become a free agent at the end of June and is set to snub a new deal with the Addicks.

But while Rangers are speaking to Aribo, the deal is nowhere near completed and they face heavy competition.

Record Sport Online also understands that while contact has been made with Aribo, Rangers have no interest in signing Martin Olsson.

Several reports this week have claimed Steven Gerrard could turn to the former Swansea City star to beef up his options at left-back.

The 31-year-old Sweden international is searching for a new club with his deal at the Liberty Stadium also expiring in the coming weeks.

However, his next destination will not be Ibrox.

Elsewhere, conflicting reports have emerged over Gerrard's pursuit of Oldham defender George Edmundson .

Rangers have had two bids knocked back by the English League 2 outfit despite centre-back being keen on a move.

Claims were made on Thursday night that the transfer was dead in the water but those have been countered by fresh insistence that talks remain ongoing.

Rangers have already signed up Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Steven Davis ahead of the new season while Greg Stewart is also set to arrive.

The club hope to bring Ryan Kent in for another season but Liverpool's Sheyi Ojo is an alternative option to his Anfield counterpart.
