Jody Morris speaks out with classy message after Derby's playoff defeat against Aston Villa

Derby County assistant manager and former Chelsea man Jody Morris has sent a message to fans following the Rams' playoff defeat.

Derby failed to make the step to the Premier League after falling to defeat at the hands of Aston Villa. Goals from Anwar El Ghazi and John Mcginn either side of half time were enough to see the Villains back to the top division after a three year absence, despite the Rams pulling back a goal through Martyn Waghorn.

Morris joined former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard on the coaching staff at Pride Park last summer after spending four years coaching the youth teams at Cobham.

Following the heartbreaking Wembley defeat, Morris has taken to social media to give his thoughts.

"Wasn’t to be today for us Rams," the tweet read. "Proud of everyone involved with the club..sorry we wasn’t able to deliver the Premier League to this great club @dcfcofficial Thankyou to the Fans it’s been a privilege to stand on the sidelines infront of you this season."

The assistant manager also followed the tweet with a classy message for their successful opponents.

"Congratulations to @AVFCOfficial ...all the the staff are a class act and I wish them all the very best next year!!"

Both Morris and Lampard now have the task of re-motivating their players ahead of another push for the Premier League again next season.
