Jodie Turner-Smith will star as Anne Boleyn in a new miniseries for Channel 5.
The Queen & Slim actor is set to portray the Tudor queen in a three-part psychological drama exploring the final months of Boleyn’s life from a feminist perspective.
The second wife of Henry VIII, Boleyn was beheaded for treason, with the series presented from her perspective as she tries to secure a future for her daughter.
It has been written by Eve Hedderwick Turner and will be directed by Deadwater Fell’s Lynsey Miller.
Speaking about the show, which is currently untitled, Turner-Smith said: “I am so excited to join these exciting filmmakers in bringing the story of one of history’s most controversial queens to the screen.
“I look forward to bringing my heart and spirit into this daring retelling of the fall of this iconic woman.”
Faye Ward and Hannah Farrell of production company Fable Pictures added: “We feel that history has side-lined the voice of this ambitious Queen in favour of the men who brought her down, and that Lynsey Miller’s beautiful, intimate vision will put Anne’s gaze at the heart of the piece.”
Turner-Smith is joined by an impressive cast including Paapa Essiedu, Amanda Burton, Thalissa Teixeira, Barry Ward and Jamael Westman.
