The man serving a life sentence for the murder of Melbourne woman Jodie Larcombe has died in prison.
Daryl Suckling was sentenced in 1996 over the murder of the 21-year-old, who was last seen in late December 1987.
Her body has never been found.
Corrective Services NSW said Suckling, 85, was found unresponsive in his Long Bay cell on Monday and was later pronounced dead.
Corrective Services and police are investigating the incident.
In June, New South Wales Police conducted a new search for Jodie Larcombe's body around the town of Mourquong near Mildura, after new information came to light about the possible location of her remains.
'Evil secrets' lost for good
Ms Larcombe's father Ken Larcombe said Suckling's death did not provide any closure or peace.
"There was always going to be a very slight chance that he might say where Jodie is," he said.
"We are no closer to knowing now,.
"He's taken all of his evil secrets to his deathbed.
"All it does is stir our emotions up again and cause more turmoil throughout the family."
