Jodie Comer will 'never live down' not inviting mum and dad to Emmys

Jodie Comer said she will "never live down" not inviting her parents to the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

The 26-year-old was stunned when she won the Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama, on Monday evening, for her role as Villanelle in BBC America drama Killing Eve .

She had been so convinced that she was not going to win that she had told her mum and dad to "sit this one out" and apologised during her acceptance speech.

Receiving the award from Gwyneth Paltrow, Jodie said: "My mum and dad who are in Liverpool, who I didn't invite because I didn't think this was going to be my time.

"One, I'm sorry. Two, I love you and I'm going to bring it home."

Jodie, from Childwall, has now spoken to Variety about how her family celebrated her win.

She said: "It’s nice to bring your parents to these things.

"But I just said, ‘Oh no, sit this one out. Now’s not my time.’

"I’m probably not going to ever live that one down with them, or they’ll be coming to every single thing now!"

She revealed that her mum and dad had their own VIP seats at home, and had stayed up all night to watch the awards.

She said: "They’d been up drinking and watching it.

"They were still up, which I was really impressed by. There were tears; there were screams. They’re just incredibly proud, which means a lot. Just a lot of chaos on the phone!"
