Jodie Comer's Broadway show rakes in over £700k before opening to public

Jodie Comer's one-woman stage show has raked in almost $1m on Broadway before even opening to the public.

Prima Facie earned £722,000 ($899,666) in its first seven days of previews where tickets are typically sold at a reduced price. Childwall-born Jodie, 30, took to the stage at New York's John Golden Theatre last week following Prima Facie's sold-out stint in the West End.

Her performance in the show - which will run in America for 10 weeks - saw her named Best Actress at the Olivier Awards this month. A source told the Mirror: "These figures are expected from big-budget productions like Hamilton, but for a one-woman show with minimal productions costs they are almost unheard of.

"Jodie's star power both on the screen and the stage are poised to catapult her to the crème de la crème of Hollywood."

In Prime Facie - written by Suzie Miller - Jodie portrays a young barrister called Tessa who defends men accused of sexual assault, but is then assaulted herself. Until last year, Jodie had never performed on stage but in the show, which officially opened in the US yesterday, she does it alone for 100 minutes.

Of the role, Jodie said: "I was so fearful of it. I knew if I said no to it, it would be purely because of that. But there was a part of myself deep down that believed I could do it, and I was interested in how I was going to get to that point."

Last year, the actress – who is best known for playing assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve – saw assets in her company Jodesco Limited rocket from £912,000 to £2.27million. Jodie, who never went to drama school, has also appeared in films such as Last Duel and Free Guy opposite Ryan Reynolds.

Next year, she will star alongside Austin Butler and Tom Hardy in Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders. But despite her success, Jodie still lives at home with her parents in Liverpool.

She has previously said: "I’d live with my mum and dad ‘til I was old and grey if I could. I recognise I need my own space and independence. I just don’t want to do it."
