PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- The Japanese Olympic Committee on Thursday unveiled the Japan House, its base for distributing information during the Pyeongchang Olympics, showing the facility to the media ahead of its official opening the next day.
Press conferences for Japanese medalists will be held at the facility, which is located near the Olympic Stadium. It will also be used to provide hospitality to foreign organizations such as the International Olympic Committee and international sports federations. There is also a booth to promote the city of Sapporo, which has expressed its intention to bid for the 2026 Winter Games.
The Japan House serves Japanese food, including such traditional fare as sushi, tempura and oden, as well as dishes that will change daily.
"To convey the appeal of Japanese food, we've focused especially on seasonings such as salt, miso and soy sauce," said Takayuki Narui, a group leader of Aim Services Co., a food service company providing meals at the Japan House.
