Jobs top 10: new graduate jobs

CVs at the ready, this week's top 10 has a graduate flavour, with plenty of entry-level roles. There's also inspiration for grads with a few years of experience under their belt - especially if you hanker after your student union days or champagne floats your boat...

A competitor analyst from Dyson

When you think of desirable brands, Dyson is up there with all the big hitters...Apple, Virgin, Innocent. In fact, since the DC33 multifloor came into my life, I've all but forgotten there are other vacuum cleaners available out there. The successful candidate for this job won't though, as in this role, you'll be busy scouting out the competition and what they get up too.

A trainee chartered accountant role at Smith & Williamson

This looks like a great opportunity - a grad job and you'll gain the ACA professional qualification. Meaning you'll be become a fully-fledged accountant, without adding any more zeros to your student debt. As grad jobs go, it looks like a good chance to get stuck in at the deep end, rather than some jobs where you find yourself trying to duck the label of 'office newbie' and spend all day clammering for more responsibility.

Intelligence officers, MI5

This is just the kind of job I'd love to have whenever I'm asked what I do at a dinner party. Fine chance though - not only because I'd probably fail the initial entry test - but, due to the sensitive nature of its work, MI5 doesn't disclose the identities of staff. Still, if your career means you're working for an organisation which investigates threats to national security and prevents the spread of weapons of mass destruction, chances are you'll have more important things to be mulling over as you tuck into your soup course.

Trainee actuary, Lane Clark and Peacock

Sounds like, from the look of this ad, pretty impressive academic credentials are a must, as the company is after what it calls 'high calibre' grads. To impress, you'll need to have a combo of skills, a good degree and (gulp) an A grade in A-level mathematics.

Capgemini is searching for recruits for its management consulting graduate programme

Now that's an impressive sounding graduate job. I've always associated consultancy with professionals a lot later on in their career with tons of experience under their bespoke hand-made belts. But according to this job spec, the programme is recognised throughout the industry for its ability to turn grads into expert management consultants. Imagine where you'll be in 20 years...

PR agency Radio Relations is offering work placements

OK, so the advert says Radio Relations is looking for an office support assistant, which you may well be interested in, but it was the small print here which caught my eye. If you didn't quite match the job spec for this particular role, they are still encouraging you to get in touch regarding their work placements and internships.

PR manager for Moët and Chandon

Now, I'd REALLY love to know what discounts are available for staff here. Or at least what their Christmas drinks parties are like. Plus what it's like nosing around the hallowed cellars. Heck, now I'm tempted to dust off my CV...

Trainee headhunter from Graduate Fasttrack

OK, it's definitely up there with management consultant for the prize of 'most impressive job title for a new grad'. Don't be intimidated though, you're not expected to know everything there is to know about the ins and outs of recruitment, as the company prefers to hire graduates without prior experience. As well as training, there's also rapid promotion on offer, so it sounds like a good bet if recruitment is an area you want to build a career in.

The Bromley by Bow Centre is recruiting a project manager

The project you'll be managing is the Out and About scheme, aimed at people aged over 60 and involving them in the centre's services and encouraging them to volunteer. Sounds pretty rewarding too, as as well as managing staff and tutors, you'll "positively represent the needs and rights of older people within the community, helping to improve and sustain their health and well-being and increase their access to services locally."

A research coordinator at Bucks Students Union

My memory of my student union is a little hazy to say the least, thanks to the copious amounts of cheap booze on offer there. Of course though, its services stretched far further than the SU bar, and it was always quite interesting watching students touting their abilities come officer election time. You'll be assisting officers such as these in this research role; the research coordinator is tasked with providing them and other staff with oodles of research to help them respond to the needs of members and the organisation.

If you've been missing your student days, and have an interest in higher education issues, this looks like a good way to get yourself back into the university environment.
