Jobs boost as builders merchants Selco move out of Bedminster

As many as ten new jobs are being created as one of Bedminster's longest-serving stores moves up the hill to Bishopsworth next month.

Builders' merchants Selco is to close its store next to the railway bridge in Sheene Road, Bedminster and reopen in a bigger site on the Cater Road retail park in Bishopsworth.

The increase in size of the builders' warehouse to 140,000sq ft will mean it will be the largest of Selco's 69 branches across the country when it opens on December 14.

Selco has been in Bedminster, next to Lidl, for 25 years, and Howard Luft, the firm's chief executive, said they would be sad to leave BS3.

“The current site has served us well and it will be sad to leave but this is a fantastic opportunity to move to a new location which will offer our customer base of professional tradespeople and businesses an even better experience," he said.

“The internal space at Cater Road alone is more than double the size of the old site and there is the added advantage of a huge external yard.

“This is an exciting new era for Selco in Bristol and we look forward to offering the same level of outstanding service and availability to customers that we have become renowned for.

“In addition, we are delighted to be creating up to ten new full-time positions and offer exciting career opportunities to people in the Bristol area," he added.

The store will host more than 12,500 building supplies and materials, with wider aisles making it easier for customers to shop.

Other enhancements include a dedicated Click & Collect area, improved café and a wider distribution area for customer deliveries.

Selco’s other Bristol branch, based off Gipsy Patch Lane in Filton, will remain in operation.
