Jobs at risk at Nottingham Trent University as bosses look to 'create a more integrated team'

A number of jobs at Nottingham Trent University are 'at risk'.

The university is proposing to create a new communications, admissions and student recruitment department.

As a result staff are at risk of possible redundancies due to the university wanting to create a "more integrated" team.

Unison, which represents full-time and part-time staff who provide public services, has confirmed there are 134 full-time equivalent staff in the departments who are at risk.

The university said of those 134 staff there are potentially 14 roles which may be cut.

Dave Ratchford, the UNISON Regional Head of Higher Education, said: "We are currently in consultation with the employer and we are securing an arrangement of changes to their position.

"We are very hopeful that the employer and us can reach some form of consensus that will be to the benefit of the majority, if not all, of the staff."

A spokeswoman for Nottingham Trent University said the changes were being made to put the university in a strong position for the future.

She said: “Nottingham Trent University remains one of the UK’s most popular universities.

"To ensure this continued success it is important that the University is in a strong position for the future.

“As part of this, we are currently consulting on proposals for the creation of a new communications, admissions and student recruitment department.

"This is driven by the aspiration to create a more integrated team as we continue to build our reputation.

“While the consultation process does involve putting colleagues ‘at risk’, it is too early to say what, if any, redundancies there will be.

"Staff are being kept fully updated and receiving support throughout this process.”
